The Sahara sits on the African Shield, built of Precambrian stones that are highly curved due to the strength of the shield, the Paleozoic structure that is finally installed remains straightforward and unchanging. For much of the Sahara, these structures were covered with Mesozoic deposits - including limestone rocks from Algeria, southern Tunisia, and northern Libya, and Nubian sandstone rocks in the Libyan Desert - and most of the region's important aquifer sites. they are visible.
